Hey Nerds This is where the main gameplay will take place for our D&D Campaign. As we're running it on a forum it might have to run a little differently to a normal campaign and we might have to mess with some of the rules in the interest of time. Additionally I might roll some checks on your behalf if it is of minor consequence to the game (perception checks for instance, I might just roll a perception check on everyone as they enter a room, so you'll all know what you can see in the room without having to ask me to roll a check for you.) A few rules though; - This thread is an In Character Area, please do not post as OOC.
- If you aren't a player, please do not post here as it will clutter the story, please keep any discussion to the other D&D thread under Community Chat.
- If you think anything you're saying you do would require a roll (which could be pretty much anything, but use some common sense) please allow for me to make a roll and cast a decision on your success before assuming you succeed.
- Please make your intentions clear when writing what you're doing as unless you and I happen to be on at the same time it'll take a long time to clarify what you meant by "I go over there" when you could have said, "I go and stand by the fire".
- DM rule is law, if you think I've done something wrong, PM me, don't OOC discuss it in thread.
- If you aren't in the same room as someone else in your party, your character cannot see and hear what they can see and hear, even though you're reading it in the thread. Remember to RP your character, not an omnipresent god.
If you do need to roll, I will request it in the following format;
[number of dice to be thrown] d [number of sides on the dice] + [any modifier you might have] eg. 1d20+Int Mod, 1d6 + Proficiency Bonus etc.
You can use the built in dice function in the Reply to Thread toolbar when you are typing your message. Although you'll have to manually add the modifiers (so just do your dice roll and type + (whatever your mod is) on the end. It is fairly self explanatory but if anyone has any issues let me know.
I think that covers most things to start off with, remember you can talk to each other's characters in characters to discuss things, you don't have to work individually.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I'll try and explain new concepts as we approach them.
Let the festivities begin ;D
D&D Of Gods and Men
Part 1: Freedom
You awake suddenly, a dull aching pain lingers at the back of your skull. Before you've even opened your eyes you realise you're tied down, forcing your eyes open you will yourself to be calm as you try to make sense of the situation. Your eyes adjust to the dim light conditions and you start to see details of the room you're in... Looking straight down your chest you can see a heavy wooden door with a lit torch on either side providing the only light in the room. The walls are cold granite and in a number of places have water visibly running down them from small cracks in the ceiling. You notice you're tied down by thick rope around your feet and chest while your hands are tied separately to metal rings merged into the stonework of the table you've been placed on. As you start struggling to free yourself, you notice for the first time that you're not alone in the room, as in the darkness you notice more tables and you can see movement on at least 2 of them. As you go to call out you are silenced by the sound of the door opening, you immediately slump back down. Slowly the door creeks open releasing an overpowering stench of death before banging shut again. You open one eye hoping to see what foul creature had imprisoned you but you are unable to see anything as small footsteps start to move around the room. You hear the footsteps getting closer to you, and then the sound of metal scraping on stone. You hold your breath for what felt like an eternity while some unseen creature muttered to itself in a language you couldn't place. Eventually the footsteps start up again as it moves away, you glance towards the sound and notice at last the small figure moving through the darkness, you see it pull a small box up to one of the tables, and pour something from a vial into the mouth of the tables participant, almost immediately you hear coughing and spluttering before the sound of a tortured man begging for forgiveness and mercy. You stare wide eyed into the darkness as the small figure lowers his hand to his side, grabbing the handle of a cleaver attached to his belt, before lifting it high above his head and bringing it slamming down on the wrist of the figure on the table, slicing his hand clean from his arm. A blood curdling scream comes from the figure on the table before he collapses into unconsciousness. Shortly after, the figure places the hand into a sack, swings it over its shoulder, and walks back out the door muttering to itself. You notice that the door just swung shut and didn't appear to get locked. Angry Andy As the creature leaves the room you go back to trying to find a way to escape, and notice that one of the metal rings your hands are tied to is loose.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)Kimmy( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) As the creature leaves the room you go back to trying to find a way to escape, and realise with some shuffling you may be able to free yourself from the ropes around your chest and feet.
God Jack Daniel As the creature leaves the room you go back to trying to find a way to escape, but you cannot find anything to your advantage.
Go.

I inhale as much as I can to see if the ropes around my chest become loose enough to remove easily

With a great intake of breath you puff out your chest and you feel a knot somewhere on the rope slide loose as you chuckle at the unknown creatures inability to tie knots.
The rope around your chest is now loose enough to slide out of, but your wrists and feet are currently still bound.

I look around to see if there is anything I can use to hop over to to cut myself loose. Is that in need of a perception check?

That would be a perception check yeah 1d20+perception modifier.
Although you are still held onto the table by your wrists and feet. All you can do is sort of awkwardly sit upright (but don't let me saying that stop you from having a look around)

You sit up and look around as best you can. You're sat on a large wooden table that resembles a butchers chopping board, running your hands over the surface you can feel multiple grooves in the wood that you assume are from cleavers and other such butchers equipment. The room is a semi-circle in shape with 6 tables arranged all facing towards the large wooden door that is gently knocking against the frame, most likely due to a slight draft. There is a torch on either side of the door that is flickering slightly but the flame is still strong. On the other tables, you can see an Orc, who seems to be focused on his wrists and a Human who appears not to have stirred from unconsciousness. On the furthest table, you can see the poor soul whose hand was removed, he has not moved since passing out. There are no windows in the room and the atmosphere is very dark and damp. The floor looks to be a rough cobblestone floor with straw scattered around. Everyone can escape their own bonds, but you each have to think of a way of doing it, alternatively you could wait until someone else is free, and then ask them nicely to help untie you I will also point out now that you do not know any of the other people in the room. They are all strangers to you.

I attempt to break the rope tying my hands trying my best at using my teeth to untie the knot, as the last rope was tied poorly, I assume that this one is poor too

You struggle with your teeth as much as you can but you are unable to untie the knot, however you have managed to fray the rope somewhat, with a good pull you might be able to break the rope. Roll d20+Str Modifier. Am sorta hoping other people will notice this has started soon... aha.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)Kimmy( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)You pull as hard as you can on the rope by it still wont split. You notice the Orc has started straining at his restraints also. Angry AndyYou're not being very specific Andrew, if you read the first post I did I gave you a hint on how you might escape your bindings. Additionally, I will roll for general ones, if I want you to roll I will ask you to do so. As much as you twist your wrist and pull on the rope you simply cannot free your wrists. You notice a nymph is much closer to escaping than you are...

I try to focus over towards the Orc is, seeing if I can possibly help free him, which will then, hopefully, allow him to free me when he is unchained

I attempt to slip my hand out of the loose metal ring in which my hand is currently imprisoned in.
Also not sure if I can do this but afterwards I look over at the nymph who is currently escaping and I usitlize my look in darkness perk thing (do I have to say it if I want to use a perk to assist me in an endeavor?) (I thought I could say this because it doesn't matter whether I escape or not.

No, you will need to say that you attempt to slip out by collapsing your hand, and will possibly need to roll as Matt decides, not stating that you were succesful at it. That is what Matt decides. I whisper to the Orc, " Excuse me, but I think that you should try looking around you to see if something can help you break loose besides aimlessly wriggling those chains."
